LAKE EYASI AND THE HADZABE

Lake Eyasi is a seasonal shallow endorheic Salt Lake on the floor of the Great Rift Valley found southern of Ngorongoro crater in the crater highlands of Tanzania and south of the Serengeti plateau. A couple of hours drive from a small dusty town of Karatu.
The lake primarily inflows being sibiti and baray (mainly) and there are some other seasonal rivers. This lake has a variable area depending on season, but it has less than a meter deep and set at an elevation of 1020 m.a.s.l. this scenic lake is less visited and less famous to many making it less congested or trafficked with clients. The lake is famously termed as the windy lake almost in entire Tanzania lakes blowing 24hours a week making this area inhospitable to fishermen making them shift to the nearby Lake Manyara.
During wet spell it’s a seasonal stop for migrating flamingoes and hippos from Serengeti are attracted too, fish do thrive in this lake include catfish and lungfish.
Mumba cave an archeological site located by the shores of this lake has yielded a number of middle Stone Age and late stone- age artifacts.
